Rocklin Dental Procedures - Soft Tissue Laser
What Is A Soft Tissue Laser
A soft tissue laser is an instrument we can use to re-contour the outline of teeth by reshaping healthy gums or decontaminate diseased gum pockets that are infected with periodontal disease. Soft tissue lasers used in laser dentistry give us the ability to improve your smile in ways that could not have been dreamed of even a decade ago. They provide for greater precision and accuracy, and are nearly painless when compared to similar procedures without using a laser.
How Does A Soft Tissue Laser Work?
Soft tissue lasers use light energy to selectively remove soft tissue in your mouth.. The laser emits photons and a very focused beam of light in a very small portion of the light spectrum. This focused beam of light has the ability to penetrate to a specific depth in the particular kind of tissue we desire to treat. The tissue absorbs the laser light, which agitates the molecules of the tissue, causing the tissue cells to gently break apart. This procedure very precisely treats only the desired area, while leaving healthy gums, bone and tooth structure untouched. Laser treatments are relatively painless since you are comfortably anesthetized before the appointment. The results of laser therapy can make a dramatic difference, from improving periodontal gum disease to improving the beauty of your smile!
